Redefining Extravagance: A Life Poured Out
"The world defines extravagance by what we consume, hoard, and display. God defines extravagance by what we pour out."
The Message
A Life Completely Redefined
When Jesus walked the earth, He inverted the world's definition of greatness—and He completely redefined extravagance. To the culture, extravagance is excess, luxury, and self-indulgence. But to God, extravagance is radical, unreserved love: a woman breaking an alabaster jar of costly perfume at Jesus' feet, a Father giving His only Son, or a believer withholding nothing from God and holding nothing back from those in need.
When you strip away religious noise, Jesus calls us to a three-dimensional life of divine extravagance—one that transforms your heart upward toward God, inward away from self, and outward toward the least of these.
The Framework
The Three Dimensions of Divine Extravagance
Upward
Extravagant Devotion
The Focus
Wholehearted, unreserved surrender to God.
The Action
Offering your time, talent, and attention with lavish abandon. Choosing authentic worship over mere religious performance, loving God not out of duty, but out of an overflowing heart.
Inward
Extravagant Surrender
The Focus
Emptying yourself of ego, pride, and self-preservation.
The Action
Courageously turning away from the subtle, "acceptable" sins that clutter your soul. True repentance is the extravagant release of self-interest to make room for God's purpose.
Outward
Extravagant Love
The Focus
Radical, non-transactional compassion for the vulnerable.
The Action
Extending practical, costly love to "the least of these." Moving beyond giving spare change from a distance to practicing proximity—physically showing up for the broken, the lonely, and the forgotten.
About the Talk
A Vulnerable, Personal Journey
A vulnerable, deeply personal talk on stripping away the noise of modern success and culture to pursue God's definition of extravagance. Drawing on his unique journey—from high-stakes business achievements to serving on the board of a $2B foundation—Josef explores what it looks like to surrender ego, wealth, and status to radically align with the heart of Jesus.
Most importantly, he shares how this internal transformation must overflow into daily life. From the quiet, daily devotion required to build a thriving marriage and raise three daughters, to stepping out of comfort zones to serve the marginalized, Josef reveals why a life lavishly poured out for others is the ultimate measure of a faith well-built.
